Estepona is a little quieter holiday Resort than those further down the Coast such as Puerto Banus or Fuengirola. However, whilst the night life might not be so frantic as in those Resorts it is still a very popular holiday destination. The Towns history goes back to pre- historic and Roman times and has been based on the port and marina. It is still a thriving fishing port today with local fisherman bringing their catch to market on a regular basis. There are 20 Kms of coast line with some of the best beaches on the whole of the Coast.

How To Get To Estepona

Estepona is nearer to the airport in Gibraltar than to Malaga being about 45 Kms away. However, there are more flights into Malaga Airport from the UK and Ireland and that is about 80 Kms away. There are good motorway connections from Malaga, so it is about an hour’s drive away. One thing to consider if you fly into Gibraltar is that it is much better to walk across the Border and hire a car on the Spanish side than in the Airport as there can be long delays crossing the border.

There are rooms available in all grades of accommodation from luxury five-star Hotels to self-catering apartments. Two of the leading Hotels would be the GrandHotel Elba and the Kempinski Hotel Bahia. The former has direct access to the beach and is within walking distance of the Port area and the latter is similarly close to the town centre. The four-star H10 Estepona Palace and the Iberostar Costa del Sol are two of the most popular four-star hotels.

Estepona is close enough to some of Spain’s great golf courses in the Sotogrande area such as Valderrama and La Reserva but there are several very good courses in the immediate locality. Estepona Golf is one of the friendliest golf courses and is a very pleasant challenge without being too exacting. More demanding and one of the finest courses in the area is Finca Cortesin which has hosted several major European Tournaments. Its reputation grows by the year and is well worth a visit. Valle Romano Golf is one of the newer additions to the golf scene and offers excellent value for money. There is some very good accommodation on the site in the four-star Aparthotel Ona. Atalaya Park, Dona Julia, La Duquesa and El Paraiso are other very good courses in the vicinity.

Nightlife In Estepona

The central area for entertainment is around the port and there you will find bars and restaurants to suit all tastes and pockets. Many of them offer live music and although there is not the proliferation of night clubs that are in other towns there are enough to provide the basis for a good night out.

Things To Do In Estepona

Many of the things to do apart from golf revolve around the coastline with some brilliant beaches to discover as well as exploring the Marina with its bars and restaurants. You can walk for miles along the Paseo Maritimo and sample some of the excellent cafes and bars along the route. There is much to see in the Old town of Estepona with the Plaza de las Flores a popular spot to sit and watch the world go by. Further afield is the Selwo Aventura animal park where you can find over 2000 creatures in naturalistic settings.
