Golfers are always looking for ways to keep the cost of the next golfing holiday as low as possible and here are our top tips to keep prices down.
1. Share Rooms
There are several resorts that have excellent accommodation and by far the most economical way is for golfers to share such accommodation. As an example, the Mar Menor Resort has one, two and three bedroom apartments available for 2, 4 or 6 golfers to share to work on a budget. Simply put, the more people that share the accommodation then the cheaper the cost will be.
2. 8 Is The Magic Number
Lots of resorts and golf courses will offer a free place if 8 or more people are travelling. This free place can be split across the rest of the group, so everyone can benefit from the saving. If you are looking to play golf in the Sun, the more the merrier we say!
3. Look For ‘Up And Coming’ Destinations
New golfing destinations are appearing all the time and as these areas are keen to attract customers away from traditional venues they tend to have to offer special prices and bargains can be had there. The Costa Dorada and Murcia regions in Spain are just two examples of areas that are looking to increase the number of golfers that play there, and both offer good golf courses and excellent accommodation at very competitive prices. Think outside the box rather than just picking the most popular well-established destinations.
4. Buggies
Many golf courses have a buggy inclusive offer in the green fee which is much cheaper than hiring one separately. One fantastic example of this is Amendoeria Golf Resort in Portugal’s Algarve region. At some courses, you can pre-book buggies in advance which is, again, cheaper than waiting to hire one when you arrive at the golf course.
5. Be Flexible On Your Travel Dates
Prices vary from time to time depending on which date you want to travel. Significant savings can be made if you travel in Low or Medium season. Prices can even vary in the same month, so a small amount of flexibility could well pay dividends.
6. All-inclusive Option
For those who want to know exactly how much the whole holiday is going to cost then consider going all-inclusive which means your food and drink is included in the price. This can be especially beneficial for group bookings so that there can be no arguments over whose round it is or who hasn’t paid into the kitty! This has proved incredibly popular for British and Irish golfers in recent years, with more destinations now offering this. 7. Car Hire For Small Groups
Whilst transfers are the most convenient way of getting about they are not the cheapest and if you don’t mind driving abroad then hiring a car is the ideal solution to keeping costs down as well as giving you the flexibility.
8. Transfers For Big Groups
Some resorts, hotels and golf courses offer free transport to and from the accommodation so choosing to stay here can be a real money saver. Vilamoura is probably the best-known destination that has a free shuttle bus service from the main hotels to several different surrounding golf courses – for a small number of golfers whom don’t fancy hiring a car and want to keep costs down, this is ideal.
