Alcaidesa Golf Offers A Choice Of Two Great Courses
The original Links course has been renovated and improved over the years since it opened in 1992 to make sure it is playable for all levels of golfer. The original design was by Peter Allis and Clive Clark and they made the very most of the topography. Many of the holes are alongside the beach offering spectacular views of the Mediterranean, Gibralter and Africa. The prevailing wind provides protection for the course as well as the speed of the usually immaculate greens.
The new Heathland course was opened in 2007 and was designed by Dave Thomas and has proved a hit with Glencor Golf clients so far. The par 72 course stretches to nearly 7000 yards from the very back tees. Again the course offers great views of the Meditteranean from several of the holes which are situated on a plateau of land. The fairways are quite wide and generous and remind one of a typical heathland course. The holes that meander through the valley are different again featuring several water hazards and slightly narrower fairways.
The difficulty at Alcaidesa Golf mainly concerns the prevailing winds in the area. One of the peculiarities that most impresses the visitor are the spectacular views of the Mediterranean, Gibraltar and North Africa.
There are some excellent practice facilities including a 72 bay driving range over 300 metres in length as well as 2 target greens and an 18 hole putting green.
