The Melia Atlantico Isla Canela is a modern four-star hotel ideally placed to take advantage of the surrounding seaside area and the excellent golf courses that are nearby. Its distinctive design is very impressive as are the facilities available to guests. Although its in Spain the nearest airport is Faro which is just across the border in Portugal and is serviced by flights from virtually every UK and Irish Airport.
The hotel operates on a half board or all-inclusive basis but there are bars and restaurants not too far away in the nearby beach and Marina area. However as there are three restaurants on site offering the freshest local ingredients skilfully crafted into both Mediterranean and International cuisine to suit all tastes and several bar areas you probably won’t need to leave the Hotel.
The on – site facilities will appeal to both those guests seeking a relaxing holiday and to those who are looking for a more active break. There is a well-equipped wellness centre where you can take advantage of the massage and therapeutic treatments available and for the more active there is a gym and a variety of sports facilities. Isla CanelaGolf is an 18 hole course that opened in 1993 and considered one of the more gentle for those who prefer to walk. This course is well maintained and is an enjoyable experience irrespective of your handcap.
Castro Marim is another course with 27 holes that fits very well into its location with the course following the natural contours of the land and providing magnificent views in all directions from its elevated position. The fairways are lined with pine trees and avoiding the fairway bunkers requires some thought from the tee. The greens are generally on the quick side and also require some care to avoid three putting.
Quinta do Vale was designed by Seve Ballesteros the course overlooks the River Guadiana and really should be better known. From the back tees its around 7000 yards with a par of 72 with wide fairways and several dog leg holes it’s a very interesting golf course.
The Melia Atlantico Isla Canela is a great addition to this area and with four relatively unknown courses to the UK golfer it’s a good idea to visit the area before it becomes better known and therefore more difficult to obtain tee times.
