About Salgados Golf, Albufeira
Salgados Golf is situated near to the Praia de Gale beach and is the closest course to the centre of Albufeira being about ten minutes drive away. It is a par 72 6600 yard layout that has been laid out amongst the wetlands which provides numerous water hazards on the course. It’s a standard layout with four par 5’s and four par 3’s and ten par 4’s and as it also sits on a nature reserve there is an abundance of wild life, fauna and vegetation. Being so close to the sea (which you can see from some of the holes) you might expect links style fairways but in fact they are more parkland in texture.
Salgados Golf Is Not The Longest Course But Don’t Let That Fool You!
The course is flat and accuracy is required from the tee rather than sheer power. Water is in play on several holes and with the sea breezes blowing in from the Atlantic it can be a challenge to keep the ball away from the hazards. To be fair to golfers the rough is quite light and easy to play from.
The first hole gives you a preview of what to expect from the rest of the round. It’s a relatively short par 4 but the drive has to be placed between water on the left and water on the right. The water on the right then goes all the way to the green just to make the second shot a little more interesting!
The first short hole the 3rd is also typical of the design of the course with water on the left and right of the hole.
Salgados Golf is never at the forefront of peoples mind when they think of playing golf in the Algarve. It should be however as it combines a challenging golf course with natural surroundings that everyone can enjoy.
