About Omaha Beach Golf, Normandy
Set in a magnificent setting overlooking the D-Day landing beaches and very close to the American Cemetery, the 36 hole Omaha Beach Golf complex is an ideal starting point for any golfing break in Northern France.
Yves Bureau designed 4 loops of 9 holes here in 1986 utilising the unique location overlooking the English Channel and also some typical Normandy countryside and each nine has its own unique character.
Omaha Beach Golf In Northern France Offers Two Fantastic Golf Courses!
As its name implies the La Mer course one of the two eighteen hole courses here overlooks the beach and runs alongside the cliff tops for the front nine. The view from the 6th green is spectacular as you stand on the cliff edge and overlook the beach and the pretty fishing village of Port en Bessin. There are also reminders to be seen of its war time role as you can also see the artificial harbour and the Longues sur Mer battery. There are at least 4 other holes on the front nine providing views across the Channel on this spectacular course. However once you reach the 10th and turn inland then the course becomes much more of a parkland layout.
The second course the par 71 Le Manoir course looks inland and gives wonderful views of the surrounding landscape. This course is more hilly and has several ponds and more trees to avoid.
Both courses require accuracy to hit the well guarded greens and once on them careful consideration should be given to any putt as the greens are invariably quick with subtle undulations.
There is a friendly welcome in the excellent club house and the food there has a well deserved reputation for quality and excellence. Also on-site is a driving range and practice putting green on site and golf clubs can be hired form the well stocked pro shop.
Both courses are well worth a visit and with the winds blowing in from the sea will provide a challenge for golfers of all abilities. However if you choose which tees you want to play off giving due consideration to your ability you will have a very enjoyable day. Not only are the courses generally very well presented in very good condition but the history that is all around them make a visit here a memorable experience.
