Beating Cancer with Macmillan and Craig Salter

Cancer sucks. Golf is great. Therefore, with the help of Macmillan Cancer Support and vlogger Craig Salter, we’re using Golf to take the fight to cancer. Based on the Longest Day of Golf event that Macmillan is hosting on the 21st of June, where around the UK people get together and play 4 rounds of golf all in one day to raise money.

However, we’re going a bit further.

It all began with an e-mail, Craig contacted us with an idea. Last year he played 4 rounds of Golf for 4 days straight which was really tiring but this year he wanted to stretch it even further. He wanted to know if we would help him play 4 rounds in 4 days in 4 different countries.

We said yes.

We opened up our address book and got to work. We figured for this to even be remotely possible we had to keep it on the west coast of Europe and that the UK didn’t count because that would be cheating. The final list became Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal. We hit the phones to arrange it and were met with total generosity from everyone we talked to!

You can follow this journey on Craig’s YouTube channel here and the JustGiving page here.

It’s a strange thing to pitch to a hotel or Golf resort, so we absolutely want to give a shout out to all the resorts who helped make it happen. The complete itinerary looks a little like this:

Sunday 17th June: London to the Le Manoir Hotel in France via the Eurotunnel.

Monday 18th June: Over to the Le Touquet Golf Club for 72 holes, then onto Brussels arriving at Martin’s Grand Hotel Waterloo (who, by the way, do a great breakfast)

Tuesday 19th June: Up early and straight off to Golf Club de Sept Fontaines, play 72 holes there and then off to Brussels Charleroi airport at a brisk pace. Then 2 hours and 40 minutes later, touchdown in Seville, Spain and on to the Islantilla Golf Resort.

Wednesday 20th June: Craig will have got to Islantilla around 1am -1:30am, so he’ll have earnt a lie in here. Unfortunately, he needs to get up and play 4 rounds of Golf.

Thursday 21st June:
A morning filled with a delightful drive to Portugal. After which it’s time for another 72 holes at Quinta Do Vale. Then a drive back to Islantilla.

Friday 22nd June: At this point Craig will be around 1,500 miles from the finish line and will need to get a move on. He will be in the south of Spain and needs to catch his train from France to London. When he gets to London, we imagine Craig will be heading directly to either a bed or to the pub.

In case you weren’t keeping track, that is 288 holes of Golf played in 144 hours, whilst travelling 3,424 miles. We have absolutely no idea when he plans to sleep and if the trains, planes, and automobiles are delayed or cancelled for any reason it’s going to be pretty tight.

The proceeds from the journey will be going straight to Macmillan Cancer Support and the Teenage Cancer Trust. You can find the JustGiving page right here.
